The Council of Europe

The Council of Europe is a pan-European organisation and one of its main aims is to protect human rights.

One major achievement of the Council of Europe is the adoption of the European Convention on Human Rights and the creation of the European Court of Human Rights. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the UK and other European countries have successfully challenged national discriminatory legislation in the European Court of Human Rights.
